Description
Essential Fingernail Cactus Care Requirements
To keep your plant healthy, ensure it receives maximum light. The Fingernail Cactus prefers bright sunlight with partial outdoor shade during peak summer heat waves. Plant it exclusively in custom cactus soil mixed with structural aggregates like gravel, perlite, or pumice stone to allow water to drain immediately away from the root systems.
Water moderately during the warm spring and summer growing seasons, allowing the substrate to dry out entirely between soakings. Keep the soil bone-dry during winter dormancy. Note that new roots can take 30–60 days to fully establish after initial potting.
Handling Your Fingernail Cactus Safely
Stem segments are naturally loosely attached and can easily break or detach during transit or repotting. If a piece detaches from your Fingernail Cactus, do not worry! Simply set the loose joint aside for a few days to callous, then place it directly on well-drained soil where it will easily re-root to form a brand-new specimen.
